Das Davor — commissions by spreadsheet.
Salon economics are commission-driven, and Verve’s commissions were a monthly spreadsheet ordeal. “Bookings were in one app, retail in a POS, and every stylist’s split was reconstructed by hand from both,” says Camille Ross, Owner. “Payroll week was two days of cross-referencing. Mistakes meant a stylist’s trust, not just a number.”
Across four locations, a stylist who covered a shift elsewhere was a special case the spreadsheet handled badly, and retail commissions were so painful to compute they were often just estimated.
$820/month across five tools. Two days of manual commission math each payroll. Estimated retail commissions because exact ones were too hard.
Der Wechsel — let the chair feed the paycheck.
Verve unified bookings, retail, and commission rules on one stylist record, then connected payroll to it. Service and product commissions now calculate themselves.
“The first payroll that took twenty minutes instead of two days, my office manager cried a little,” Ross says. “Happy tears. The math just did itself.”

Der Schlüssel – the stylist record does the math.
With bookings, retail, and commissions unified, payroll stopped being a project:
- Service and retail commissions calculate from the stylist record
- Cross-location shifts attribute correctly without special cases
- Stylists see their own bookings, sales, and earnings live
- Payroll reads it all directly — no re-keying, no spreadsheet
When a stylist can open their own record and watch each service and product sale roll into their commission in real time, payday holds no surprises. Transparency did more for retention than any bonus.
Die neue Normalität — recruiting on the numbers.
“Stylists talk, and ‘you can see your earnings live and payroll is never wrong’ became a recruiting pitch,” Ross says. “We’re filling chairs we couldn’t fill before. The savings were nice; the trust was the prize.”
